Apple Cider Press

The final project for my Materials and Manufacturing class was to create a product as a group that showcased our various production skills. We decided on creating an apple cider press. We used several tools to fabricate this device, including water jet, mill, and several rolling and fastening techniques.

We began by designing our final model in SOLIDWORKS. The design was inspired by the original apple juicer patent from the early 20th century and featured a wooden frame, aluminum collecting tray and basket. The pressure is applied by turning a threaded rod. The handle has spokes so a pole can be placed between to increase leverage.

In the end, we were able to produce 67 mL of apple juice from 8 apples. We believe that with higher quality produce, we can use the same method to acquire more.
